Riley Gaines recently reacted to a high school student protest against the alleged presence of a trans athlete. The students have been penalized for their protests by the school administration.
A few weeks ago, a student at Martin Luther King High School lost her varsity spot to an athlete who is reportedly a biological male. The students protested against the school administration by wearing T-Shirts that proclaimed 'Save Women's Sports.'
Gaines reacted to this development by posting on her Instagram story. She wrote:
"Crazy that students are being punished for what 99% of people know to be true..... Keep standing tall @jadeynn_lynn and the other MLK HS students!"
Gaines also posted a short description about what the protesting MLK High School students had to face.
"Heartbreaking.
- MLK HS compared a shirt two girls wore that said “Save Girls Sports” to wearing a swastika
- 150+ students wore the same shirt to school to support the girls
- The school punished the students by issuing dress code violations & barring them from attending class
Riley Gaines has been campaigning for the exclusion of trans athletes from women's sports since 2022. She initially gained public attention for her campaign against transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, who tied with Gaines for fifth place at the 2022 NCAA Swimming Championships.
Riley Gaines on organizing a ceremony for a high school volleyball team forfeiting their match over a trans athlete
Recently, Riley Gaines had organized a ceremony for a high school volleyball team for boycotting their match. Stone Ridge Christian High School had boycotted their divisional volleyball tournament game against San Francisco Waldorf over the reported presence of a trans athlete on the opposing team.
A month later, Gaines met with the students, expressing her support for their decision. She posted on her X timeline:
"3 weeks ago, Stone Ridge Christian School in CA BOYcotted their state championship semifinal match because the opposing team had a male, prematurely ending their season. Today, I spoke to the student body & honored their courage. 100% of sane people recognize them as champions."
Gaines posted another tweet, where she added:
"They may technically have a loss on their record, but 100% of sane people recognize them as the true champions. #BOYcott"
Previously, Riley Gaines had supported the campaign against the San Jose State Spartans over the presence of Blaire Fleming, who is reportedly a transgender. Gaines supported the five educational institutions that boycotted their matches in the NCAA Mountain West Conference League over the presence of Fleming.
