David Taylor on balancing his roles as wrestler and coach
David Taylor announced his retirement from international wrestling a few days ahead of the World Wrestling Championships, after it was announced that he had accepted to replace former Olympic champion John Smith as the head coach of Oklahoma State Cowboys team.
In a video uploaded by USA Wrestling in October 2024, Taylor confirmed that the World Wrestling Championships will be his penultimate international tournament. He further talked about his new role as the head coach at the Oklahoma State University. In his words,
"Definitely. I think coming back and wrestling at the trials - I was just talking to my wife about this last night - it was something that I made my mind up that I wanted to do it and I wanted to compete. So balancing everything was a little bit easier at that point. I think between now and the World Championships, it starts to hit you the significance of what you're balancing. It’s a lot. At that point in time, we were still in the summer, we were training hard.”
Under David Taylor's leadership, the Oklahoma State is doing well at the NCAA Championships for 2024-25 season. They will be facing the Iowa State University on January 26 in their next face-off.
