Gabby Thomas spoke about expectations from people and received the tag of one of the fastest women on the planet after winning three gold medals at the Paris Olympics. The American athlete is set to make her first track appearance after her victorious campaign in Paris at Athlos NYC, the track meet that is being organized by Serena Williams' husband, Alexis Ohanian.
Thomas won the gold medal in the women's 200m, 4x100m relay, and 4x400m relay. She opted out of the Diamond League series, which was organized weeks after the Paris Olympics, and announced that she would be running her final race of the 2024 season at Athlos NYC.
The Inaugural event of Athlos NYC will be held on September 26, 2024, at Icahn Stadium. The event is a women-only meet that aims to create a revolution in the track and field world.
Gabby Thomas spoke about competing in the event and expressed excitement to return to the track after the Paris Olympics.
"While I'm racing I'm in the zone, it is a flow state. I let all the training do the work, my muscles know what to do. My mind knows what to do. Being deemed one of the fastest women on the planet is very surreal to me. Not something that I ever imagined for myself. Athlos definitely feels like an event where we finally as female athletes have some ownership, have some say. We have a big part in its creation. I'm excited!" she said.
Some of the Olympic Champions who will be headlining the meet are Gabby Thomas, Masai Russell, and Faith Kipyegon, among others.
