Gabby Thomas noted how a downhill day in training made her realize that success doesn't happen in a straight line. Thomas is currently in the third week of training for the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo.

Thomas competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics but finished with bronze in the 200m and silver in the 4x100m relay event. She made up for the loss at the Paris Olympics, winning gold medals in the 200m, 4x100m, and 4x400m relay events. She concluded her 2024 track season with a silver finish in the 200m at the Athlos NYC.

The 27-year-old returned to training in November, posting updates about her progression on her social media handles. As she kicked off her third week of training for the 2025 World Championships, the Olympian shared that her training went downhill. However, the session made her realize the bumpy road to success and plan a better run next time she hits the track.

"I am on day one of week three of training for the 2025 World Championships and today we had our mild time trial and four 200s, five 150s, and five 100s, but my mild time trial today did not go as well as I thought it was going to go or as well as I wanted it to go. I wanted to do better than I did last week and I did a little bit worse despite feeling fine and everything, but I feel like this was a really good reminder for me that progress is not linear and success does not happen in a straight line for anyone who's trying to do anything great like it never did and never will."

She added:

"I don't know, I could be tired from weights, it could be the holiday, whatever, but I'm not going to let it discourage me because next week I'm going to come back and run even faster. Or not. But I'll still be great."
