American alpine ski racer Lindsey Vonn has reacted to former Swiss ski racers' recent statements regarding her comeback. Pirmin Zurbriggen is the most recent addition to this list of racers. He is a former Olympic gold medalist who amassed 40 World Cup victories to his name before retiring in 1990.
As per Blick Sport, Zurbriggen stated that there is a high chance Vonn could face a severe injury upon her return to the sport that could keep her away from the sporting circuit entirely. The 61-year-old also claimed that Vonn fears she may be deviating away from the limelight of a champion.
Reacting to this statement, Vonn took to her X (formerly Twitter) handle to slam the skiers who have spoken against her comeback in recent months. The 40-year-old also questioned the medical knowledge of these former racers who have commented against her despite the doctors clearing her. She wrote:
"You know, I’m getting pretty tired of people predicting negative things about my future. It’s enough now. Bernard, Sonja and now Primin… is there a reason all former Swiss skiers think this way? Did they all become doctors and I missed it, because they talk like they know more than the best doctors in the world."
Lindsey Vonn had also slammed Swiss racer Sonja Nef last month after the latter explained the consequences that a fall would bring to her metal knee. Besides, Bernhard Russi had also commented about Vonn's comeback last month and termed it as a risky move.
Retired US ski racer Bode Miller comments on Lindsey Vonn's comeback to the skiing circuit
Bode Miller recently shared his thoughts regarding Lindsey Vonn's comeback from retirement. This comes just a couple of days before Vonn's first FIS Ski World Cup race since 2019 in St Moritz.
Miller lauded Vonn as one of the most formidable ski racers that the discipline has ever seen. He also expressed his belief that Vonn would be fast in her races after her comeback. He said (via ABC News):
"She’s one of the best there’s ever been and it’s great for the sport. I have no doubt she’ll be fast. I just want her to stay healthy."
Bode Miller himself is one of the most prominent ski racers in the sport with 33 World Cup wins and 79 podium finishes. Additionally, he also has six Olympic medals to his name including the men's super combined gold medal at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
