Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is enjoying her off-season as she is letting her body relax. The athlete recently concluded her 2024 season after the Brussels Diamond League ended.
McLaughlin-Levrone also dominated at the Paris Olympics, winning two gold medals in the 400m hurdles and the 4x400m relay events. In the former discipline, she clocked a world record time of 50.37s to stand atop the podium. The 25-year-old trounced her arch-rivals Anna Cockrell and Femke Bol, who claimed second and third places, respectively.
Following this, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone won another gold in the 4x400m relay. She and her team, including Gabby Thomas, Shamier Little, and Alexis Holmes, clocked an American record of 3:15.27, besting the Netherlands and Great Britain, who secured second and third places, respectively.
The American athlete concluded her 2024 season by running two special races at the Brussels Diamond League. During a recent interview with Neutrogena's Kate Mackz, McLaughlin-Levrone spoke about her off-season. The interview was conducted on the track of Sydney's old high school.
"I actually take a few months off just to recuperate, let the body relax and I'm eating a liitle bit more than I should. So, I'm enjoying this time off," she said.
When Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone credited her parents for an excellent career in track and field
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone once went on 'The College Sports Company' podcast where she opened up about the huge role her parents played in her track and field career. She revealed that both her parents were runners and said she received the "strength" and "speed" from them.
"So, both of my parents ran. My mom ran in high school, she ran the 800m and my dad ran the 400 so I was like perfect mix for 400m hurdles. You know, you got that strength and that speed. But, yes, they both are track and field lovers at heart and they just did an amazing job," Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone said.
"I feel like because of the values and morals my family had growing up, kind of fostering and building my career up and protecting the child and I think that is something that people don't consider in an individual sport like track there are so many things that you have to figure out for yourself," she added.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has four Olympic gold medals, two of which she won at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the 400m hurdles and the 4x400m relay events. She won the other two gold medals in the same discipline at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The 25-year-old is gearing up for the 2025 season, where she will be a part of Michael Johnson's Grand Slam Track League.
