Elaine Thompson-Herah recently flaunted her new off-season look following reports that she has parted ways with coach Reynaldo Walcott. Notably, Thompson-Herah joined Walcott's team in November 2023 to train for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Jamaican track star is renowned for her Olympic career as a consecutive gold medalist in the 100m and 200m at the Rio and Tokyo Olympics. However, during the 2024 season, Thompson-Herah only featured in two meets.
She opened her 2024 season at the Prefontaine Classic, a Diamond League meeting, where she didn’t have an ideal campaign as she finished ninth with a time of 11.30s. In her second event, the 32-year-old struggled again at the USATF New York City Grand Prix, where despite starting strong, she began to fade and finished with a time of 11.48 seconds. There, she also appeared to have injured her Achilles tendon and had to be carried off from the track.
Due to her injury, she skipped both the 100m and 200m events at the 2024 Jamaican Championships, which determined the nation's track and field team for the quadrennial games. As a result, she was unable to secure a third consecutive title in the sprint events.
Following the conclusion of the Paris Olympics, Jamaica Observer reported that Thompson-Herah has allegedly split with Walcott after the rumors of Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Walcott parting ways. Unlike Thompson-Herah, who joined Walcott's training group last year, Fraser-Pryce has been a part of the Elite Performance Track Club since 2020 under Walcott's coaching.
Reports also suggest that Thompson-Herah may reunite with Stephen Francis and return to the MVP Track Club from where she departed in October 2021.
Following the reports of the coaching change, Thompson-Herah took to her X (formerly Twitter) to share a glimpse of her new off-season look. In this look, she was captured wearing a sleeveless crochet top with a braided hairstyle, and the picture was taken inside a car.

Elaine Thompson-Herah inspired by Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s fashion sense
Elaine Thompson-Herah said that she has been somewhat inspired by Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s fashion sense. Here's what Thompson-Herah said during an interview with the World Athletics for their IAAF Inside Athletics in 2017 (starting at 11:18):
“I try to up-style from her [Fraser-Pryce], not just to be exactly like her. I like to be neat, and glamorous, and this is just me. A neat person."
In addition to her unique hairstyles, Fraser-Pryce is renowned for being a ten-time world champion and a three-time Olympic gold medalist. She is also widely regarded as one of the greatest track and field athletes in the sport's history.
