The unexpected elimination from the World Championships is not the only setback Jordan Burroughs had to face this year. For the second consecutive time, the American grappler was eliminated from contention for the US Olympic wrestling team for the Paris Olympics, when Jason Nolf defeated him at the US Olympic Trials.

In an interaction with FloWrestling before the World Championships, Burroughs mentioned about his thoughts after he failed to make it to Paris.

"After the World championships and the Olympic Games, nothing else really matters for us. So, going back to back years 23 and 24 not making a team, it just kind of jaded me a little bit in regards to where I was as a sportsman. But, you know, was I seeing the end of my career in real-time? So, a lot of the things that I felt was a lot of me just projecting my own insecurity of where I was right. I'm like, ‘Man, is it over?’ ," he said.

However, it seems unlikely Burroughs will call it quits soon. In another interview uploaded on YouTube, the former Olympic champion mentioned about his plans to make another attempt at Olympic glory by making it to the Los Angeles Olympics 2028. However, for Burroughs' teammate and former Olympic champion, the World Championships was his last tournament, as he was eliminated in the preliminaries itself.
