American gymnastics legend Simone Biles was thrilled to meet Caitlin Clark and her Indiana Fever teammates during her first WNBA game appearance. Biles was accompanied by the reigning triple Olympic champion Gabby Thomas.
Biles became the most decorated American Olympic gymnast after securing three golds and a silver at the Paris Olympics. The 27-year-old secured gold in the individual all-around, team all-around, and vault, while earning a silver in floor exercise. With that, she surpassed her compatriot Shannon Miller, with whom she was tied with seven Olympic medals. Biles now holds a total of 11 medals, making her the seventh most decorated Olympic gymnast of all time, considering both men and women.
Following her successful Olympics campaign, Biles is enjoying her time off the court, as evidenced by her recent appearance at the Indiana Fever vs. Connecticut Sun game. Caitlin Clark led the Fever to an 84-80 victory over the Sun. After the game, the Fever team met with Simone Biles backstage, where she was joined by fellow Olympic champion Gabby Thomas, a three-time gold medalist from the Paris Olympics.
A video of their meetup was posted by Indiana Fever on their X handle (formerly Twitter); reposting the same, Biles wrote,
"EVERYONE WATCHES WOMENS SPORTS so happy to be able to go support! my first of many WNBA games."
"I still can’t believe it" - Simone Biles reflects on her Paris Olympics campaign
Biles expressed her excitement about her four-medal haul at the Paris Olympics. She attributed her success to the training she received under the guidance of coaches Cecile and Laurent Landi. The 27-year-old also mentioned that the successful campaign in Paris had lifted a significant weight off her shoulders.
"A lot of training with Cecile and Laurent (Landi), a lot of hours with my therapist, making sure all the ducks are in a row so that I can perform as well as I want to. So, after all is said and done, a lot of weight is off my shoulders," Biles said (via Olympics.com).
"I feel so much better now that it’s done because we know how hard that is especially to attain something that is so big and to just even do it again was an amazing accomplishment to just make the all-around final and then to come out with a gold medal I was like, 'Oh my gosh I did it’ but I still can’t believe it," she added.
Biles also acknowledged that her therapy sessions played a crucial role in her success at the Paris Summer Games.
