American athlete Hunter Woodhall is poised to participate in the third Paralympic Games of his career. He has showcased excitement to perform at the upcoming US Paralympic Trials, slated to be held from July 18-20 at the Ansin Sports Complex in Miramar, Florida.
The 25-year-old has already represented the US on the Olympic stage twice. He grabbed one silver medal and one bronze medal in his Olympic debut at the 2016 Rio Olympics in the 200m T44 and the 400m T44, respectively. He grabbed another bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the 400m T62 event.
Woodhall has had a remarkable 2024, having nabbed notable achievements in various competitions. He solidified his legacy in the 100m at the US Paralympic Track and Field National Championships in March, as he clocked a phenomenal 11.00s and accomplished the PR and T62 American records. Woodhall trounced Blaker Leeper and Lucas Jundt, who recorded 11.52s and 12.39s, respectively.
Now, the American is heading towards the US Paralympic Track and Field trials with the hope of punching his ticket to Paris. He showcased his excitement in his recent Instagram post, where he added a bunch of pictures of him on the track and wrote in the caption:
"Paralympic Trials next week 🦿🤘🏼. Excited to show everyone what I've been working on."
When Hunter Woodhall expressed his desire to compete in Olympics
Hunter Woodhall produced an exceptional performance at the 2024 Arkansas Twilight in the men's 400m Final 3. He finished fourth after clocking a time of 46.39s and breaking the T62 American record. Following this, he impressed all the enthusiasts by delivering another dominant performance in the 4x400m race, where he clocked a 44.88s split.
Following these stellar wins, he expressed his desire to compete at the Olympics on X.
"Let me run in the relay @Olympics plz," Woodhall wrote in May this year.
In a post-race interview, the American athlete also reflected on his performance at the Arkansas Twilight.
"It was awesome, I mean, difficult conditions, just like having a really hard week of training," said Hunter Woodhall (via Arkansas Track & Field). "Not tapering at all, so my body was under a lot of load, and still being able to run that fast, the third fastest time I've ever ran, so I'm super happy with that, and it just shows a lot of the sacrifice I made this year paying off."
He added:
"It's really exciting, it's a lot of fun races to get in and compete and go try to win some medals. And I'm prepared, got the best team in the world around me, getting ready to go.”
Beyond his athletic achievements, Hunter Woodhall is married to long jump athlete Tara Davis-Woodhall. The couple has supported each other and is always seen lauding each other on social media. They tied the knot on October 16, 2022, in McKinney, Texas.
