Simone Biles teased a hilarious name for their five-member women's gymnastics team competing at the Paris Olympics 2024. Biles led the team to win the gold medal in the women's finals on July 30 inside the Bercy Arena.
The USA posted a dominant score of 171.296 to win their fourth Olympic team gold medal in history. Italy was second with 165.494, winning their first team medal in history, while Brazil settled for bronze with 164.497. Great Britain, who were in contention for the podium finish until the last routine of the day, finished fourth with a score of 164.263.
With USA's triumph, Simone Biles won her fifth gold, and eighth overall Olympic medal, making her the most decorated American Olympic gymnast in history. She also became the oldest gymnast to win an Olympic medal since 1964.
While Biles was brilliant on all four apparatuses, Jade Carey, Suni Lee, and Jordan Chiles were no less than exceptional. Speaking at a press conference following the meet, Olympic medalist turned gymnastics reporter asked Biles about the name they had thought for their team. The 27-year-old came up with a hilarious response, saying (via Gymnastics Now on X:
“F* Around And Find Out”
However, she later clarified that they had discussed a few names but hadn't liked any.
“We didn’t think of one. We didn’t like any — there’s none.”
Giving a name to the women's gymnastics team has been a tradition for nearly three decades, with some of the popular names being ‘Magnificent Seven’ for the 1996 Olympic Team and ‘The Final Five' for the 2016 Olympic team, of which Simone Biles was also part.
What's next for Simone Biles after winning team gold at Paris Olympics?
Simone Biles is set to compete in four finals starting from August 1. She will be seen in action during the all-around finals on Thursday. Biles is the favorite to take the all-around crown but expect some tough fight from Rebecca Andrade.
The 27-year-old will then compete in the vault finals on August 3. She will again be the favorite for gold in the vault and the floor finals, which will take place a day later. If Biles wins all three gold medals, there would remain no doubt over her status as the greatest gymnast of all time.
Simone Biles is slated to compete in the women’s balance beam final as well which takes place on August 5. Although not a favorite in this competition, she would look to call off her campaign on a high with another medal.
