Legendary swimmer Michael Phelps and multiple-time four-time Olympian Allison Schmitt reunited with their long-time coach, Bob Bowman, at the University of Michigan. Throughout their illustrious careers, both Phelps and Schmitt have collected multiple Olympic and world championship medals for the country.
Phelps started coaching under Bowman when he was eleven years old and visited the North Baltimore Aquatic Club for a 60-minute technique workshop. Years later, the Maryland-based swimmer went on to become the most decorated Olympian of all time with 28 medals.
Bowman also shaped Schmitt's career as the American swimmer moved to Baltimore to train under coach Bowman following her high school graduation in 2008. Schmitt started honing her skills under the legendary coach with a quest to earn glorious feats at the 2008 Games.
At the Beijing Olympics, Schmitt bagged a bronze medal with the team in the 4x200m freestyle relay event. During the recently held dual meet between the University of Michigan and the University of Wisconsin on October 18 and 19, 2024, at the Canham Natatorium in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the inspiring coach and his accomplished prodigies reunited.
Bowman shared a few pictures of their heart-warming meet and wrote:
"Family reunion at Canham," Coach Bowman wrote. "Thanks, Urbie for bringing us all together. Today was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate a life incredibly well lived. #keepitmoving #hailtothevictors."
Michael Phelps' long-time coach Bob Bowman's new prodigy Leon Marchand is making waves by surpassing the legendary swimmer's records
Michael Phelps has had a career nothing less of legendary, filled with multiple world and Olympic records. However, his long-time coach Bob Bowman's new prodigy is making waves while shattering the legendary swimmer's records one at a time.
At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Leon Marchand proved his prospects as a promising athlete by securing five Olympic medals, including four gold and one bronze medal. In the men’s 200m individual medley, he broke Michael Phelps' Olympic record set in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, clocking 1:54.23. Marchand registered a stunning 1:54.06 at the French capital to surpass Great Britain's Duncan Scott and China's Wang Shun, who posted 1:55.31 and 1:56.00, respectively.
Further, in the men’s 400m individual medley, the French swimmer again shattered the former swimmer's Olympic record of 4:03.84, also set during the Beijing Games. Marchand recorded 4:02.95 to surpass the long-standing record.
