Gabby Thomas reacts to being a part of Alexis Ohanian's track and field event

In April, Gabby Thomas partnered with Serena William's husband, Alexis Ohanian, for his women's only track and field event, the 776 Invitational. The 27-year-old was ecstatic to join this program and shared her thoughts about being a part of it. During the Business of Women Sports Summit, Thomas said that the event will emphasize inspiring fans and revolutionizing women's track events.

"I am excited to partner with forward-thinking organizations like 776 that share our vision for advancing women’s track. Through this investment, we hope to not only provide athletes with the resources and visibility they need to have enduring careers but also to inspire fans worldwide with a reinvented format to experience the best of our sport," she said.

The name of the event has now been changed from 776 Invitational to Athlos NYC, which is kept after the Greek word for 'athlete'. The meet will be held at Ichan Stadium in New York City on September 26, and Gabby Thomas, who will be running in the 200m event, is "honored" to be a part of the organization.

"It's official, the 776 Invitational has officially been revealed as Athlos NYC and I’m thrilled to announce I’ll be running in September at Icahn Stadium in New York!!! I’m honored to be a part of something that revolutionizes the sport for future generations all while competing alongside the women who inspire me everyday 🤎' - @gabbythomas"

The Athlos NYC boasts the largest purse ever for a women-only competition. The winner will be given $60,000, while the athletes finishing second and third will receive $25,000 and $10,000, respectively.
