She crashed into the protective fencing after veering off the course close to the finish line. The American, aiming to register her 100th World Cup title win that day, was soon taken to the medical center for treatment and evaluation.

Hours later Mikaela Shiffrin took to Instagram and revealed that the situation was under control however, an abrasion near her hip had restricted her movement. Four days after the crash, Shiffrin shared an update on her injury after returning back home. The 29-year-old revealed that even though she has been making progress in the recovery process, she announced her withdrawal from the Birds of Prey World Cup scheduled for Dec 6, 2024.

"A little update…technically it’s day 4, but who’s counting?! (🙋‍♀️) It’s so nice to be back home and in my own bed, feeling a bit more human now 😅, but I, unfortunately, won’t be ready to race at @bcworldcup this year, which I was really looking forward to…instead I’ll look forward to cheering on my teammates!" she wrote.

Mikaela Shiffrin shared a detailed update on her recovery process after returning home. The American skier expressed how it has been refreshing to be able to sleep in her bed as well as 'feel human' again. Shiffrin revealed that she had to go back to the hospital as there were concerns in regards to her colon which had air bubbles.

"So we are home now. I am so excited to be home now and be able to sleep in my own bed. Got here last night and pretty much went straight to the hospital to do a little check and see if there were any updates because there was a little bit of an original concern about my colon as there were some air bubbles where the puncture came like pretty close to the colon," she said.
"Last night's check confirmed that my colon is indeed intact. We would have seen symptoms sooner but it's just good to have that confirmation. As far as the muscle trauma goes, there is a puncture and basically, whatever stabbed in there did a little dance inside of my obliques and basically tore a cavern into my obliques muscles. So, that's what's causing bleeding and inflammation and just pain in general," she added.

Furthermore, despite being unable to compete Birds of Prey World Cup, she expressed her excitement to cheer Team USA skiers who will be taking to the slopes on December 6, 2024.
