Femke Bol announced her final race of 2024 after registering one of the most successful seasons of her career. The Dutch athlete is all set to make her last appearance in the Diamond League finals in Brussels, slated to be held on September 14, 2024.
Bol put forward great performances throughout the 2024 season, right from the indoor races early at the beginning of the year, where she broke the Indoor 400m world record two times and clinched the gold medal in the World Athletics Indoor Championships. She then went on to win three medals at the Paris Olympics.
Post the Paris Olympics, Femke Bol competed in the Lausanne and Silesia Diamond League, where she won the gold medal in both races and qualified for the Diamond League finals in Brussels. She took to Instagram stories to announce that it would be her final race of the season.
Along with that, she shared the nostalgia of having only a few practice sessions left as her 2024 season comes to an end.
" Only a few more training sessions of this amazing season," she wrote.
Bol will be competing in the women's 400m hurdles, which is scheduled at 21:52 local time in the Diamond League Finals in Brussels.
" Last race this Saturday at the Diamond League final," she wrote.
Femke Bol on being disappointed after the 400m hurdles finals at the Paris Olympics
Femke Bol won the bronze medal in the women's 400m hurdles at the Paris Olympics. The Dutch athlete was not content with her performance but was grateful for getting the opportunity to compete on the sport's biggest stage.
Despite having a strong start, she could not pull through in the final stretch of the race as she felt stiff due to lactate accumulation.
"Gave it my all, left my heart on the track. It’s not the race and result I came for and that hurts. However I’m proud of myself and my team for winning the second individual Olympic medal and for putting it all on the line to not have any regrets," she wrote.
The 24 year went on to express appreciation for the support she received from her fans and iterated:
"The stadium that turned orange during the final night was truly magical. Thank you to everyone who was there that night I felt soooo supported: before, during and after the race," she added.
With three medals, the Paris Olympics became the most successful Olympic campaign of her career so far.
