Femke Bol recently competed at the FBK Games in the Netherlands. It was the Dutch athlete's first race in front of a home crowd as she gears up for the upcoming Paris Olympics. She clocked 50.02s to set the meet record at the event.
Femke Bol has been in peak form in the 2024 season with great performances in the indoor season and early outdoor season. After setting the short course 400m World Record at the World Athletics Indoor Championships 2024, she is considered to be one of the top prospects for the podium at the upcoming Paris Olympics.
Moreover, in 2024, she won the European Championships, bettering American athlete Sydney McLaughlin Levrone's 400m hurdles World Lead by clocking 52.49s. McLaughlin Levrone redeemed her top position in the 400m hurdles once again at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials by breaking the world record with a time of 50.65s.
Bol's race at the FBK Games ahead of the Paris Olympics drew comparisons between the two athletes and fans took to X to voice their opinion about the same.
"She’s not gonna challenge Syd but she is needed. We need Femke to push Syd the first 250m for a sub 50 400h time. She’s femke is a very important piece,"wrote a fan.
"50 flat on a cold rainy day is faster than a lot of these comments are giving credit for. Syd is clearly still #1 but Bol is going to give her a great challenge,"another fan tweeted.
"I think she has to worry about Anna Cockrell for silver because Sydney is going sub-50 in the 400mH," another fan chimed in.
Here are some more fan reactions:
" Femke is the only one who can come close so I hope so. I still think Femke will post a time in Paris that will break Sydney's previous records but Sydney will break hers again,"wrote a fan.
" Yup. That 400 time will challenge Syd’s 400H time in Paris," wrote another fan.
" It’s almost unfair to her because she has no chance without Syd either falling or getting hurt," another fan tweeted.
