Netherland’s Femke Bol had the sweetest reaction to compatriot Sifan Hassan being crowned the World Athlete of the Year. Both Dutch runners had successful Paris Olympics campaigns, and Hassan's exceptional performances throughout the year earned her the prestigious World Athletics award.

The 31-year-old Hassan has been widely recognised for her versatility in the distances she runs, having walked away with the 5,000m and 10,000m gold as well as the 1,500m bronze during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

This year, Sifan Hassan extended her impressive repertoire by securing the marathon gold medal at the Paris Olympics, along with bronze medals in the 5,000m and 10,000m events. Her exceptional performances in 2024 earned her the Women's Out of Stadium Athlete of the Year award through popular vote and the overall Women's World Athlete of the Year title from World Athletics.

Reacting to this news, Femke Bol expressed her enthusiasm by reposting a reel on her Instagram story where Hassan proudly declared herself the World Athlete of the Year. Bol added crown and heart-eye emojis to her repost, signifying her admiration and support.

Meanwhile, Femke Bol has also delivered multiple mind-blowing performances in 2024. The Dutch hurdler was crowned the World Champion in 2023, and continued to build on that momentum this year. She began her season competing indoors, winning the 400m at the Metz Moselle Athleor, Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais Trophée EDF, Dutch Indoor Championships, and the Glasgow World Indoor Championships.

Bol’s indoor season also saw her win the 200m race at the Metz Moselle Athleor and the 4x400m relay at the World Indoor Championships.

After acing the short track, the 24-year-old began her outdoor season in April, experimenting with the 100m distance. In May, she helped the Netherlands make it to the podium at the World Relays. In June, Bol finally began competing in the 400m hurdles, winning the Stockholm Diamond League, European Athletics Championships, and the Résisprint International.

At the Résisprint International, she ran a personal best of 50.95s, making her only the second woman after Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone to dip under the 51 second mark.

Femke Bol then headed to the Paris Olympics, where she won bronze in the 400m hurdles, silver in the 4x400m relay, and gold in the 4x400m mixed relay. The Dutch athlete wrapped her season up with back-to-back wins at the Lausanne Diamond League, Silesia Diamond League, and the Brussels Diamond League Finals.
