Femke Bol is one of the best endurance sprinters of the current generation, having clocked multiple 400m world indoor records, as well as the second fastest time in the history of the outdoor 400m hurdles. The Dutchwoman is now gearing up for her 2025 season, and she recently gave fans a glimpse of a brutal lactic training session she underwent.
For Bol, 2024 was an incredible season, with the highlight being the Paris Olympics. The runner began her year competing indoors, claiming the title of the 400m World Indoor Champion in March. Later, as she prepared for the 2024 Games, she clocked a time of 50.95s at the Résisprint International in July, making her only the second woman in the history of the sport to dip below the 51-second mark. At the Olympics, Bol won three medals, including one gold. She wrapped up the year by claiming her fourth consecutive Diamond League trophy in the 400m hurdle.
Now, Femke Bol is prepping for her 2025 season, and she's hard at work. Recently, she took to her Instagram stories to give fans a glimpse of her training. The World Champion reshared a story by Retruventmedia, which showed a picture of Bol and her teammates lying on the ground after an intense run.
She captioned it,“And this was not even after the last run.”
Bol also shared a mirror selfie of her and her teammates on her story, writing,
“Lactic session 🥵✅. Now weekeeeeend.”
Femke Bol reflects on her Paris Olympics bronze medal
Femke Bol began her Paris Olympics campaign by helping the Netherlands secure gold in the 4x400m relay, coming from behind to anchor the team to the win. She then went on to compete in the 400m hurdles, where she finished third after being outdone by Team USA's Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Anna Cockrell.
Reflecting on this bronze medal finish, Bol wrote on Instagram,
“OLYMPIC BRONZE MEDALIST. Gave it my all, left my heart on the track. It's not the race and result I came for and that hurts. However I'm proud of myself and my team for winning the second individual Olympic medal and for putting it all on the line to not have any regrets. The stadium that turned orange during the final night was truly magical.”
Femke Bol wrapped up her time at the Games with a silver in the 4x400m relay. She now heads into the 2025 season as the reigning World Champion in the 400m hurdles. She will have the chance to defend her title in September later this year, with her primary competition being Olympic champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone.
