Track and field athlete Gabby Thomas was delighted to meet basketball prodigy Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever team at a recent WNBA game. The three-time Olympic gold medallist attended the Fever-Connecticut Sun game on 29 August alongside gymnastics legend Simone Biles, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Thomas, 26, has been riding high on the success wave after competing at the Paris Olympics 2024. The American athlete, who bagged a silver and a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, returned with a bang in Paris. She won three gold medals in the 200m, 4x100m relay, and 4x400m relay races.
Taking a break, Gabby Thomas attended the Fever-Sun game in Indiana. The athlete shared glimpses of her meeting Caitlin Clark and the entire Indiana Fever squad on Instagram. It featured pictures of her posing with the 22-year-old athlete and gymnast Simone Biles. Thomas captioned about her delightful time:
"First WNBA game ☑️"
"First visit to Indy ☑️"
"I freaking love sports!!! 🙌🏽"
The Fever clinched a crucial 84-80 win over the Sun. Moreover, Clark managed to hit a new rookie record for most 3-pointers. She added 19 points with five assists and five rebounds in 38 minutes of play.
The youngster now has 88 3-pointers under her belt. She surpassed Atlanta's Rhyne Howard’s 85 in 2022.
Gabby Thomas agrees with Caitlin Clark over the pre-game mindset
Gabby Thomas' bond with Caitlin Clark was evident earlier when she agreed with Caitlin Clark’s opinion about pre-game mindset. The Indiana Fever guard shared that she prefers silence over music before any game to calm her mind. Clark said:
"I don't listen to music before a game, so I can't answer. I keep silent."
Coming across the interview, Gabby shared Clark’s opinion on her Instagram story. She also captioned it to express her acknowledgment:
"I always tell people this and nobody understands"
Thomas will next appear at the Athlos NYC League, a brand new women’s only track event organized by tennis legend Serena Williams and her husband and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.
The event aims to inspire the next generation of female athletes. It will be graced by several renowned athletes like Faith Kipyegon, Alexis Holmes, and others. The upcoming championship is scheduled for September 26 at Icahn Stadium.
