Simone Biles began her Olympic campaign earlier on Sunday and her husband, Jonathan Owens has been a pillar of support despite being miles away. Biles was flawless despite a slight injury scare that almost slowed her down.
The 27-year-old topped the table with points in the division two of the women's artistic individual all-around with 59.566 points with compatriot Suni Lee coming in second with 56.132 points. Biles started her dominant campaign on the beam balance before the floor exercise.
Biles oozed class on the uneven bars to score the highest points and put Team USA in the lead. The lead gives the team confidence as they gear up for three more sub-divisions.
However, Biles did not have it all easy as she had to be strapped on her ankle since she seemed to have experienced discomfort that forced her to limp.
Her husband Owens, who could not be at the Bercy Arena to witness his partner begin her Olympic campaign, nonetheless showed his support for Biles via social media.
After his training session with the Chicago Bears, Owens took the opportunity to watch Biles put up a flawless performance at the Paris Olympics. He shared a series of Instagram stories, lauding the four-time Olympic champion's efforts.
Owens shared in a series of Instagram stories:
"We locked in."
"Flawless."
"No words."
"Let's go baby."
Meanwhile, Jonathan Owens will join Simone Biles on Monday. But for now, he can rally behind her on his social media platform where he has been sharing a series of stories on his Instagram, lauding Simone Biles’ efforts.
Simone Biles explains the motivation behind Maya Angelou’s quote tattoo on her collarbone
Simone Biles got a tattoo of the quote by Maya Angelou, ‘And still, I rise’, in 2021 and she has since explained the motivation behind it. In her newly released Netflix Documentary, Simone Biles Rising, she explained that she resonates with the quote, especially after her delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games setback and managing to bounce back and qualify for the Paris Olympic Games.
At the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, Biles won four gold medals but dropped in Tokyo to claim only a bronze medal on the balance beam and a silver medal for her team.
"And still I rise is perfect. I feel like that’s kind of the epitome of my career and my life story because l always rise to the occasion; even after all the traumas and downfalls, I’ve always risen," Biles said.
She has since been off to a great start at the Paris Olympic Games and will be hoping to continue the hot streak and bounce back to her 2016 form. As things stand, the USA has topped the points table with 172.296 points with Biles having a great share of it.
