Mondo Duplantis' long-time girlfriend Desiré Inglander shared a heartfelt note for her partner as the couple got engaged during their recent Vogue Scandinavia photoshoot. It was a surprise proposal from Duplantis.
Duplantis' engagement to Inglander followed a remarkable 2024 season in which he defended his Olympic title in Paris. The 24-year-old won the gold medal with a record-breaking leap of 6.25m, surpassing his own world record for the ninth time. Duplantis then competed in the Silesia Diamond League on August 25, where he further elevated his world record for the tenth time with 6.26m to end his 2024 season on an exceptional note.
Another significant moment of his life occurred recently, as the Swede got down on one knee during Vogue Scandinavia's shoot in East Hampton, New York, to propose to his influencer/model girlfriend. According to Vogue Scandinavia, they were invited by Mondo Duplantis to plan a surprise for Inglander during what she thought was a regular editorial shoot for the magazine until he popped the question in the middle of the shoot.
After the engagement, Desire Inglander shared the video of the proposal on her Instagram handle and wrote a heartfelt note for her soon-to-be husband.
"I can't describe the last few days. Forever is not enough @mondo_duplantis," she wrote in the caption.
In a subsequent stories post, she shared the unexpected appearance of Northern Lights during her engagement party and wrote:
"I have much to share from the past days but I will enjoy this a little bit more before I do. I had to share this one picture from yesterday: We had the engagement party at the beach, then suddenly someone pointed at the sky and said that it’s the northern lights. Neither Mondo or I have ever seen it, so this moment was unreal. Life is beautiful."
Mondo Duplantis reveals he started planning the proposal right after winning his Olympic gold - "I was ready to do it"
Mondo Duplantis met Inglander during a midsummer party in Sweden, and the duo started dating months later. However, the Olympian once revealed to People that she was not interested in him when they first met. Duplantis also revealed that he started planning the proposal just after his gold medal win at the Paris Olympics.
"On the way home actually—on the flight. The second after the Olympics was done, I was ready to do it," he told Vogue.
Desire Inglander was present at the Stade de France when Mondo Duplantis defended his Olympic title, and to celebrate the victory, he ran straight to her.
