Former Nebraska Cornhuskers player Merritt Beason recently shared her thoughts on the warm welcome she received from the Nebraska crowd. This comes just after she and her pro team Atlanta Vibe suffered a defeat in their season opener against Omaha Supernovas.
The Supernovas defeated Beason's side by a margin of 3-2. Despite the defeat, Beason produced an impressive performance in her debut professional match with 20 points in the game. Following the match, Beason stepped in for the press meet along with her teammate McKenna Vicini and coach Kayla Banwarth.
During the meeting, Beason spoke about the beautiful welcome she got from the crowd during the game at the Chi Health Center in Nebraska. She also revealed that this gesture by the fans also made her emotional and brought tears to her eyes.
Merritt Beason said (via Omaha World-Herald 0:12 onwards):
"It's cliche to say but everyone always says there's no place like Nebraska and I think that's just a testament to that like to welcome like that is just, it did almost bring tears to my eyes just because this is such a special in that regard of just welcoming girls like back home and we saw a lot during the season."
Notably just two days later after this defeat, Beason's Atlanta Vibe bounced back with a 3-0 win against the Vegas Thrill. They will be up against the Columbus Fury in their next match on Jan 16 at the Gas South Arena.

Merritt Beason recently expressed her feelings about starting a professional career in Nebraska during a press meet after her first Atlanta Vibe match.
During the meet, Beason remarked that many players don't get the chance to begin their pro career in the place where they concluded their collegiate career and it was a special moment for her. She also mentioned that her warm welcome just added to the special feeling.
She said (via Omaha World-Herald 1:33 onwards):
"It's so special and something that a lot of people don't get to experience like starting their pro career where they finished their college career and so to have that opportunity is really special and the welcome back home just added to that."
Merritt Beason spent two of her four years with the Nebraska Cornhuskers Volleyball program and also won two Big Ten titles.
