Former Nebraska Cornhuskers player Merritt Beason shared glimpses as she prepares for her new team, Atlanta Vibe's media day. This comes just more than a month after she was picked in the side during the Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF) draft.
Following a successful tenure with Nebraska, Beason has already started her preparations with her new team as she looks forward to the upcoming season. The former Nebraska outside hitter recently stepped in for the Vibe's media endeavors, two days before the side's first match in the season against Omaha Supernovas.
Beason took to her Instagram handle to share a few glimpses of her time before the media day. In the post, Beason can be seen donning a blue Atlanta Vibe jersey (no.5) as she posed for a mirror selfie.
"rookie media dayyyy" Beason wrote in her first story.
In her second story, several of her new teammates can be seen joining Beason for the photoshoot.
Besides Merritt Beason, Nebraska Huskers players Lindsay Krause and Leyla Blackwell were also drafted to teams Omaha Supernovas and San Diego Mojo respectively.
Merritt Beason opens up about Kayla Banwarth, Atlanta Vibe coach
Meritt Beason recently shared her thoughts on Atlanta Vibe coach, Kayla Banwarth who was appointed to the position last year. Banwarth like Beason is a former Nebraska Huskers player and was a major part of the defensive lineup of the side.
In a press-match interview, Beason expressed her excitement of playing under Banwarth and assured the latter's presence has been "comforting" for her. Additionally, she also mentioned, that Banwarth has made Beason's switch to the PVF team easier. She said:
"It's really exciting. It's comforting too cause a lot of things are pretty similar. So, it's pretty comforting. Obviously, she was a great volleyball player and a great coach and just having that connection is really special and like I said, a lot of things are pretty similar, at least so far. I've only been here a few days so it's pretty comforting and makes the switch a little bit easier to ease into things." [via Atlanta Vibe on Instagram]
Kayla Banwarth, similar to Merritt Beason was also a Nebraska Cornhuskers team co-caption. She led the team in 2010 and notably also won Big -12 Defensive Player of the Week three times in her career.
