Tokyo Olympic silver medallist Fred Kerley has been training vigorously for the last couple of months and has even put forward a claim that he would win a gold medal at the Paris Olympics 2024. In a recent Instagram post, he statedfred kerley that he has been moving forward with "the plan".
Before Covid, Kerley used to compete in 400m events, where he earned several medals at the World Championships, comprising gold in 400m and bronze in the 4x400 relay events. Soon after 2020, he switched to 100m events and got his first gold at the 2022 World Championships.
Since then, the 2022 World Champion has been practicing for the 100m events as his priority. He clinched gold in the 4x100 relay at the 2023 World Championships. Ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, the versatile sprinter has posted an Instagram post with the caption saying,
"Moving forward with the plan."
Till now, Kerley hasn't discussed his plan in public.
His plan may not be available right now, but his former coach Alleyne Francique had discussed his training methodologies in April 2023 with Olympic.com. Along with detailed training sessions, Francique had talked about Kerley's way of resting:
“You need at least eight hours of sleep. I don’t know how you get it, but you need it. The good thing is Fred doesn’t party or drink. He'd rather spend time on social media,” Francique said.
"It's gold time"- Fred Kerley ahead of the 2024 Olympics
The Olympic medallist Fred Kerley delivered a spectacular performance at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials by securing third place, covering 100m in 9.88s. He was ahead of 2016 track and field Olympian Christian Coleman by 0.5s.
During the post-race interview with Citius Magazine, the interviewer asked Kerley what his third-place position meant for his 2024 Paris Olympics preparations. He replied,
"It's gold time. The season started today, so owning it up," he said.
Kerley previously finished the 100m with times over 10s in several leagues like the Xiamen Diamond League and the Shanghai Diamond League in April 2024. However, Kerley has now recorded a timing of under 10s for 100m, in the Olympic trials.
In the interview, he also talked about overcoming his under-10s timing:
"Everything comes to an end and everything comes to a beginning and this was my beginning," he stated.
The track and field event at the Paris Olympics 2024 will start on 1 August, with the men's 100m preliminaries set for 3 August.
