American sprinting sensation Fred Kerley has his eyes set on the 100m world record. Recently, he made a bold statement, saying he would break Usain Bolt's long-held record. However, track and field commentator Anderson Emerole thinks otherwise of Kerley's claim. The athlete has given a simple yet cold reply to the commentator's dissent.

Kerley, on May 14, took to his X account and claimed:

"World record next time I touch the 100m."

The legendary Usain Bolt holds the fastest 100m time of 9.58 seconds. He has held the record for 15 years. However, Fred Kerley thinks he will beat the same in his next 100m event.

Anderson Emerole, the track and field commentator of Citius Mag and The Final Leg, said he does not think Kerley or any other athlete would be able to break Bolt's record anytime soon. He said:

"Do I think he's going to break the world record in his next race? No. Do I think any athlete is going to break the world record in 2024? No. Do I think any athlete is going to break the world record in the next three to five years? No."

After this, the Olympic silver medalist took to his X account and gave a simple reply, saying:

"Noted."

Reflecting on Kerley's 2024 performances, he has not been at his best. Track and field enthusiasts have also raised questions about the athlete's form. He hasn't clinched gold so far in any of his races this season. He has lost to both Noah Lyles and Christian Coleman in the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix and at the Xiamen Diamond League.

Marcell Jacobs reacts to Fred Kerley's 100m claim

Marcell Jacobs expressed himself openly after Fred Kerley posted the 100m world record statement on X. Both athletes are expected to lock horns in the upcoming Oslo Diamond League which is slated to be held at the end of this month.

Jacobs reacted to Fred's tweet with laughing emojis. A track and field enthusiast Track Spice shared Jacobs' reaction on their X account. The post's caption read:

"Marcell Jacobs laughs at Fred Kerley in the comments section ahead of their race at Oslo Bislett Games."

The two athletes haven't competed against each other since the Tokyo Olympics finals. In a conversation with AFP, Jacobs spoke about his rivalry with Fred.

"It's good to create a bit of interest, individual challenges, to get people talking about us," he said (via Gulf Times).

Jacobs added:

"I think it's important, it helps everyone in athletics a bit and it always inspires us more. It will be good duel."

Fred Kerley's next 100m race is awaited by every track and field enthusiast. Along with the world record claim, the enthusiasts are now also eyeing Jacobs and Kerley's showdown.
