Letsile Tebogo etched his name in history books after winning the first-ever Olympic gold medal for Botswana at the Paris Olympics. Courtesy of his victory in the 200m event at the Games, Tebogo will now be getting multiple rewards, including a four-bedroom house and 1,000,000 pula.

Tebogo delivered an exceptional performance in the 200m dash on August 8 at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Clocking 19.46s, he defeated the event's heavy favorite, Noah Lyles, who finished third with a time of 19.70s. The second place was claimed by the American Kenny Bednarek, who clocked 19.62s. With this win, Tebogo became the first African to win the 200m final at the Olympic Games.

Following this win, the African athlete will now be receiving a plethora of gifts from the Botswana government, a local company, and various institutions as well. As per Ghanaian journalist Fentuo Tahiru, the rewards for the 21-year-old include a 4-bedroom house from the government;1,000,000 Pula ($75,000) from a local company; and $3,600 for reaching the final of the 100m and 200m races.

Along with this, Tebogo will also be getting another honorable reward of a national holiday in his name and will reportedly receive cash rewards from various institutions of around $260,000. Apart from this, he will be getting a second house if he helps Botswana stand on the podium in the 4x400m in the ongoing Games.

Letsile Tebogo dedicated his Paris Olympics win to his mother

Letsile Tebogo's mother, Seratiwa, passed away in May from an illness, and the athlete revealed that he has dedicated his 200m win to her. He paid tribute to his mother on the biggest stage by holding up his shoe to the camera following the race, which carried his mother's birthdate, and along with this, he also painted her initials on his nails.

He recently opened up about the death of his mother and said that he tries to not let the thought of her get into him too much. He also expressed that her death had affected him deeply (as quoted by USA Today):

"I always think about her but I just try not to let it get into me that much and then just block it out and move forward," Letsile Tebogo said. "I believe there is a medal in these legs and it only needs the determination and the willpower to do it."

He added:

"I've had such a huge blow that affected me deeply so I'm still trying to get the confidence back into the body. It's not about injuries, it is all about my mum."

Apart from his 2024 Paris Olympics win, Letsile Tebogo was also the first African to win the 100m dash at the World Championships in 2023.
