Sha'Carri Richardson's track and field season in 2024 ended on a slightly disappointing note, as the Olympic champion finished eighth in the women's 100m final at the Wanda Diamond League 2024, held at Brussels in Belgium. The 24-year-old athlete won numerous USATF and global events this season, including the Olympic gold medal in the women's 4x100m relay at the Paris Olympics, earning over $50000 in prize money.

The 24-year-old athlete from Dallas in Texas won the US Olympic Track and Field Trials, for which she received $11000 from the US Athletics Track and Field. Apart from that, Richardson participated four times at the Diamond League 2024, coming second in the 200m event at the Xiamen Diamond League and third in the 200m event at the Shanghai Diamond League, respectively.

As per the Diamond League rules, every athlete who finishes first gets $10000 per meet, $6000 per meet for someone who finished second, and $3500 for the athlete who came third, respectively.

Since Sha'Carri Richardson won the 100m even at the Eugene Diamond League and the Zurich Diamond League, respectively, she got a combined prize total of $29500, and an additional $500 for finishing among the top eight at the Diamond League final held in Zurich.

Apart from that, Sha'Carri Richardson is confirmed to get $12500, since anyone who wins a gold medal in the track and field events at the Olympics get $50000 from the World Athletics, which is distributed in the case of the relay events.

With that, Sha'Carri Richardson is expected to take home $53500 as prize money this season.

Sha'Carri Richardson began her athletic season with the Xiamen Diamond League 2024, where she finished second in the 200m event, with a timing of 22.99 seconds.

She further participated at the Shanghai Diamond League, where she finished third in the 200m race, with a timing of 23.11 seconds.

However, Sha'Carri Richardson was far from over. She won the Eugene Diamond League, finishing at the top in women's 100m event with a timing of 10.83 seconds, which was her seasonal best. After the Paris Olympics, Sha'Carri Richardson participated at the Zurich Diamond League, where she topped the race with a timing of 10.84 seconds.

At the Diamond League finals held in Brussels, it was a rematch between Sha'Carri Richardson and Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia. Alfred had overcome Richardson with a national record timing of 10.72 seconds to win the first ever Olympic medal for Saint Lucia with her historic gold in the 100m.

As such, Sha'Carri Richardson wanted to settle the scores for good with a victory in the Diamond League finals. However, once Julien Alfred raced ahead, Sha'Carri Richardson couldn't catch up with her. With a timing of 10.88 seconds, Julien Alfred became the first athlete from Saint Lucia to win the Wanda Diamond League trophy in any event.

Dina Asher-Smith of Great Britain finished second with a timing of 10.92 seconds, while Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith of Ivory Coast came third with a timing of 11.05 seconds. Sha'Carri Richardson just managed to avoid the embarassment of finishing last as she finished on the eighth position with a timing of 11.23 seconds.
