Gabby Douglas talks about resilience and reflects on her journey
In 2024, Gabby Douglas looked back on her journey and shared her excitement for gymnastics, describing how incredible yet surprising it felt to return to the gym after several years away. The gymnast also mentioned that during her time off, she focused on personal growth and self-discovery, which revealed her love for the sport.
Reflecting on her time away, Douglas also explained why she never formally announced her retirement from gymnastics. Despite struggles during her last Olympics, she shared that she didn't want to end her career in a negative role. Instead, she aimed to give her best. In an interview with Inside Gymnastics Magazine in February 2024, she reflected on her journey and said:
"I never wanted to announce any sort of retirement or you know like I'm done with gymnastics even though things didn't go well the last Olympics. And I never wanted to quit on a bad day, I wanted to make sure, if I give it my all and really push myself and give it everything I've got then I'll be satisfied." (5:16 onwards)
In the interview, Douglas highlighted how her perspective on gymnastics has evolved. She now enjoys all aspects of the sport, not just her favorite events from earlier years.
