Gabby Douglas recently expressed her concern related to travel delay ahead of the 2024 U.S Core Hydration Classic. Douglas was expected to make a stunning return at the 2024 U.S. Core Hydration Classic following her redeemable performance at the 2024 American Classic.
She returned to the gymnastics arena at the 2024 American Classic after a nearly 8-year-long hiatus, last competing at the 2016 Rio Olympics. With just one day remaining for the 2024 U.S. Core Hydration Classic to kick off, Douglas voiced her distress about travel complications after being stuck in Dallas due to the flight cancellation.
The 28-year-old was set to compete against other elite athletes, including Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Shilese Jones, Jordan Chiles, and Kayla DiCello. She took to social media to express her worry and wrote,
"Flight got cancelled and now stuck in Dallas. Help!!!!!"
Douglas' comeback at the 2024 American Classic in Katy, Texas was worthy of her long-term hiatus. She collected 14.000 points in the women's vault event to finish behind Jade Carey in second place.
She settled for fifth place in the balance beam event after collecting 13.350 points. Her performance made her eligible for the 2024 U.S. Gymnastics Championships, which are slated from May 30 to June 2, in Fort Worth, Texas.
"I'm still a competitor at heart" - Gabby Douglas on her return after an eight-year-long hiatus
Gabby Douglas secured a gold medal along with the team at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, her last competition before the hiatus.
Three years before this glorious victory at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, she became the first African-American woman and the first woman of color of any nationality to secure a gold medal in the individual all-around event.
During an interview with NBC News before the comeback, the Olympian opened up about her decision to make a comeback and said,
"I was watching the 2022 U.S. championships, and I was like, 'Man, I miss competing.' And, I was trying to figure out how to get like, this... I'm still a competitor at heart... I can get this out of me, and so I decided to start back training. I can't believe I'm in this sport again."
The 2024 U.S. Core Hydration will allow her to qualify for the 2024 U.S. National Championships.
