Gabby Thomas extended support to Frances Tiafoe during the American tennis player's third-round match against Ben Shelton at the 2024 US Open. Tiafoe won in straight sets and advanced to the quarterfinals in the Flushing Meadows.

Thomas emerged as one of the most successful Olympians in Paris with three gold medal podium finishes. She won the 200m, 4x100m relay, and 4x400m relay events as the most decorated US track athlete at the 2024 Games.

After her victorious campaign, she shifted her attention to tennis to support her fellow US sportsperson Frances Tiafoe in the final Grand Slam of the year.

In her Instagram story, Thomas seemed to be in a public place, where the TV screen was playing Tiafoe's match. She captioned the story with US flag emojis to cheer on the former World No. 10.

Tiafoe earned the victory against Shelton with a scoreboard of 4-6, 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-3. Shelton and Tiafoe had locked horns in 2023, when the former ousted the Florida native, winning in four sets.

Recently, Thomas was also spotted at a WNBA Indiana Fever game, witnessing standout player Caitlin Clark break the record for the most 3-pointers by a WNBA rookie. The three-time Olympic gold medalist graced the sidelines alongside fellow Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles.

After the game, members of the Fever team were caught fangirling over Thomas and Biles, posing for a photo with them one by one. Gabby Thomas took to her X account to express excitement over her first WNBA experience.

"First WNBA game of many! Had so much fun supporting these stars," the caption read.

Gabby Thomas on her love for the track - "It can be painful at times, but it’s such a beautiful sport"

Interestingly, Thomas was initially inclined to play soccer and softball in her earlier days. Her mother, Jennifer Randall, signed her up for track after witnessing her run at a blistering speed on the football field.

As she gravitated toward the track, the 27-year-old fell hard for the sport.

"It’s really easy to fall in love with running. It can be painful at times, but it’s such a beautiful sport. You set goals and go after them in the purest form — and when you achieve those goals, it’s such an addicting feeling," Thomas said. (via USA Today)

The Netflix docuseries Sprint 2, which will feature the likes of Thomas alongside other track icons, is slated to hit the screens on 12 November 2024. The Olympian will also compete in the women-only track event, Athlos, set to take place in September.
