Gabby Thomas shared that she welcomed the New Year with 300m sprints in the morning. Thomas enjoyed a successful 2024 season, winning three golds at the Paris Olympics alongside other achievements.
Thomas walked home as the most decorated US track athlete at the Paris Games, clinching the 200m, 4x100m, and 4x400m relay gold medals. She followed up the wins with a 200m silver finish at her last track competition of the season, the Athlos NYC, hosted by tennis legend Serena Williams' husband, Alexis Ohanian.
Returning to track practice in November, Thomas has regularly shared updates about her progression and even posted videos of her regime at the Tonja Bailey Track Club. On January 1, 2025, the 28-year-old posted a photo of herself in a New Balance athletic fit, sharing that her New Year's Day started with 300m runs.
"Sprinting into the new year with 300m this morning," the caption read.
Recently, she shared a reel she shot with her coach, Tonja Buford-Bailey, hilariously explaining that she pretended to enjoy the latter's jokes to skip the last set of 200m sprints of the day.
"When the joke isn't that funny but you don't feel like running the last set of 200s today," the in-video text read.
She captioned the post:
"If only it were this easy smh"
Gabby Thomas' string of success in 2024 earned her the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Female Athlete of the Year award. She also made off-track appearances after the Paris Games, attending the New York Fashion Week and presenting at the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund and Footwear News Achievement Awards.
Gabby Thomas addressed the young crowd with a motivational speech after winning the USATF honor
Thomas shared her birthday with the USATF award ceremony, where she was handed the Jackie Joyner-Kersee honor. Standing on the podium, the five-time Olympic medalist encouraged the up-and-coming generation to work on their dreams despite the hurdles they face.
"Girls and boys who might be watching, believe in yourself. When I was younger, I had big dreams too. Dreams that oftentimes scared me because they felt like they were too far away. But here's what I want you to know. You are capable of far more than you can imagine. The world will try to tell you to be realistic, or to do things a certain way, or that certain things are not meant for you. Don't listen. Your dreams, no matter how big they are, are valid," she said.
Thomas added:
"Dreaming big means stepping outside of your comfort zone. It means working hard even when nobody is watching, and believing in yourself even when it feels hard. Some days you might feel like giving up, and that's okay. Rest if you need to, but never stop. And remember, your dreams can inspire others one day. So don't hold back. Be bold. Be brave. And dream big."
Gabby Thomas won the 200m dash at the 2024 London Diamond League, months after her double podium win at the 2023 World Championships.
