Gabby Thomas recently attended the New York City Marathon as Grand Marshal and was left amazed by the experience. After the race, she took the time to share with fans a heartfelt note on the power of running.
For Thomas, 2024 has been nothing short of incredible. The American began the season on the domestic circuit, storming to a handful of wins as she prepared for the bigger competitions of the year. She showed her dominance in the 200m at the U.S Olympics Trials, storming to the win in a time of 21.81s.
At the Paris Olympics, Thomas was equally incredible, winning her maiden Olympic gold when she clocked a 21.83s in the 200m final. She would later go on to run the 4x100m and 4x400 relays, helping Team USA to win gold in both events.
Even though her competitive season is over, Gabby Thomas has found a new way of enjoying running. She was in attendance at the New York City Marathon as the Grand Marshal and took to Instagram after the race to detail her experience about the same, writing,
“Thank you New Balance and New York Road Runners for granting me the opportunity of being Grand marshal for this year's New York City Marathon. Running is so much more than just a sport- it taught me about discipline, resilience, and finding joy in pushing limits. This marathon brings people together from all backgrounds and communities through the transformative power of running, and I was able to witness that today. So proud of everyone who participated!!”
Gabby Thomas heaps praise on NYC Marathon runners
The New York City Marathon saw the participating elite athletes clocking some extraordinary times. On the men's end, Abdi Nageeye was the top finisher with a time of 2:07.39s, while Sheila Chepkirui won the women's race in a time of 2:24.35s.
After the marathon, Gabby Thomas heaped praise on the elite athletes who ran in New York City, writing on X,
“I’ve said it ten times, and I’ll say it again…these marathon runners are absolutely incredible.”
Gabby Thomas ended her 2024 season with the Athlos track meet in September and will return to action next year. The American is currently nominated for the World Athlete of the Year award alongside the likes of Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Beatrice Chebet, Julien Alfred, and more.
