Gabby Thomas expressed her admiration for the new custom-made racing bibs designed especially for women at Athlos NYC. The American athlete made her final track appearance in 2024 at the inaugural edition of the track meet at its 200m event.
Gabby Thomas put forward some incredible performances in the early races of 2024. She emerged as one of the top contenders for the gold medal at the Paris Olympics after a stunning performance at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials held in Hayward Field. She asserted her dominance in the women's 200m finals to win her first-ever Olympic gold medal with a performance of 21.83s.
Moreover, she competed in the women's 4x100m and the 4x400m relay and emerged victorious in both events by winning the gold medal. It also became the most successful Olympic campaign of her career so far. Thomas then decided to opt out of the Diamond League events scheduled after the quadrennial Games and decided to make an appearance in the all-woman track meet organized by Serena Williams' husband, Alexis Ohanian.
Athlos NYC featured several first-of-its-kind features, which included a performance by Megan Thee Stallion, easy accessibility to watch the meet, and a 10% overall revenue sharing along with a great prize purse. One other aspect that was not highlighted during the track meet was the custom-made bibs, which were specifically designed for women.
The new bibs were meticulously designed, which made them small yet very clear without causing a hindrance to an athlete's overall body movement, unlike the traditional bibs, which were comparatively bigger. Gabby Thomas reacted to the new bib and wrote:
" If you ever ran track you know how big of a deal these bibs are 😅🤌🏽."
Athlos NYC took several measures to bring about a change in the women's track in their inaugural edition and strives to continue bringing about innovations in their upcoming editions.
Gabby Thomas on her decision to participate in Athlos NYC

Gabby Thomas spoke about her decision to compete at Alexis Ohanian's Athlos NYC, after the Paris Olympics. The American athlete revealed that she was excited to be a part of the change in women's sports and considered it to be bigger than herself because of the impact the meet hoped to create in the future.
"This is bigger than myself and it’s bigger than this race. It’s bigger than just the six of us lining up. It’s really about what we’re doing for women’s sports. What this event particularly means for women's sports and track and field," she said.
Thomas won the silver medal in the 200m finishing behind Brittany Brown with a performance of 22.21s. With this meeting, she concluded one of the most successful seasons of her career so far.
