Gabby Thomas, the 2023 World Championships gold medalist in 4x100m relays, recently reacted on the makeup products of tennis star Serena Williams' new brand Wyn Beauty.
Williams, who has been one of the most successful WTA players of her generation, has been involved in various entrepreneurial endeavors after her hiatus from the sport. Recently she launched her personal make-up brand named Wyn Beauty in association with the Good Glamm group, a personal care brand that operates in various parts of the USA, Dubai, and India.
The major products of the brand include lipsticks, mascara, etc., and prices generally vary between 20 USD to 30 USD. Regarding this new expedition in her entrepreneurial portfolio, the former WTA No.1 said in a statement:
"Throughout my career, I was always searching for makeup that looked good after hours on the court, mixing products myself and creating my own formulas while traveling the world."
She further added:
"As I evolved and remained active both on and off the court, I needed products I could apply at 7am before a full day of meetings, spending time with my kids, making time for the things I love and still look good at the end of the day."
Reacting to this, two-time Olympic medalist Gabby Thomas shared a story on her Instagram handle with the caption:
"So excited"
Gabby Thomas launches new venture with Serena Willaims' husband Alexis Ohanian
Over the years, various former and current female athletes of the track and field circuit have raised their concerns over the minimal amount of stipends they get for their hard endeavors in the sport.
Keeping aside the sponsorships from shoe and sports gear brands, the prize money too, that the female athletes receive from the tournaments, is fairly less as compared to other disciplines.
Owing to this, 27-year-old American sprinter Gabby Thomas along with Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian are in talks to launch a new all-female track and field tournament. Ohanian's firm 776 will be backing this tournament which will be known as the 776 Invitational.
The 776 Invitational will offer a whooping prize money of $60,000 to each winner of the event which is more than double the amount Diamond League pays to its female winners. The second and third-placed contestants in the events will take home around $25,000 and $10,000 respectively.
The tournament is also aiming to broadcast at a much broader spectrum to expand the influence of track and field as a sport. However, the schedule, timings, and location of the 776 Invitational is not yet finalized.
