2024 Paris Olympics gold medalist Gabby Thomas will serve as the Grand Marshall of the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon set to be held on November 3. Started in 1970, the 2024 event will be the 53rd edition of the marathon.
This comes after her impressive outing at the second Olympic Games of her career in Paris where she finished the event with three gold medals. Besides serving as the prestigious Grand Marshall of the event that will require her to address the participants of the competition, the 27-year-old will reportedly attend the opening ceremony of the marathon.
In an interview with ABC, Thomas commented on her excitement about serving as the Grand Marshall of this prestigious marathon event. The five-time Olympic medalist also stated that she is set to cheer for all the marathon runners participating in the competition. Thomas said:
"I am thrilled to serve as the Grand Marshal for this year's TCS New York City Marathon, supporting more than 50,000 runners as they cross the finish line, I was so fortunate to experience the feeling of having thousands of people cheer for me this summer, and I can't wait to be the one cheering on these incredible runners as they achieve a major goal."
Gabby Thomas has never run a marathon event so far in her career and has also revealed in the past that she has no intentions to run more than a mile.
