Gabby Thomas shares spotlight with Jackie Joyner Kersee after winning major award at FNAA 2024

Gabby Thomas shared the red carpet with the legendary Jackie Joyner Kersee at the Footwear News Achievement Awards in New York. Thomas achieved massive success at the Paris Olympics this year, winning three gold medals and becoming the most decorated track and field athlete at the 2024 Games.

Thomas was part of the 200m roster at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, winning the bronze and taking silver in the 4x100m relay event. After clinching a record three gold medals in her second Games edition, the 27-year-old became the highlight of several talk shows and podcasts like Jimmy Kimmel Live and Nightcap, among others. She also graced red carpet events like the New York Fashion Week, stunning in Caroline Hererra and Tommy Hilfiger fits.

Gabby Thomas presented at the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund Awards, besides interviewing Nicki Minaj at Vogue's Forces of Fashion. Recently, she added another star-studded stint on her wall of fame, sharing a frame with Jackie Joyner-Kersee at the Footwear News Achievement Awards in New York.

The intergenerational athletes posed in black dresses in a video shared by Thomas on her Instagram story.

Thomas presented the Company of the Year award to her partner brand, New Balance, a sports merchandise giant.

Jackie Joyner-Kersee, a retired track and field athlete, won two gold medals in the heptathlon and long jump at the Seoul Games and another heptathlon gold in the 1992 edition. She also amassed silver and bronze medals in heptathlon and long jump in the 1984, 1992, and 1996 Games.

Gabby Thomas received the 2024 Jackie Joyner-Kersee Athlete of the Year award in honor of her Paris Olympic success. USATF took to its X handle to announce the news with snaps of Thomas' dominance on the track and podium moments from the French capital.

"Introducing your USATF Jackie Joyner-Kersee Athlete of the Year! @itsgabbyt won triple gold in Paris to earn USATF’s highest honor."

Gabby Thomas expressed gratitude for the honor in her X post, captioning it with teary-eyed and joined-hand emojis.

The five-time Olympic medalist was also in the World Athlete of the Year run but lost to 400m hurdles world record holder Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and 100m reigning champion Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia.

Thomas also has a medical career besides athletics. A Harvard University graduate in neurobiology and global health, she volunteered at a healthcare clinic in Austin, even when she was gearing up for the Olympics.
