Skye Blakely recently shared a glimpse of her training session with her fans. Blakely was forced to withdraw from the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Trials after suffering an Achilles injury.
The 19-year-old gymnast was compelled to leave the Target Center in a wheelchair after she injured herself during the training session at the Olympic Trials. Blakely was training for the final event, the floor exercise, when she had a short landing and crashed down on the floor, enduring a right Achilles injury.
The two-time world championships medalist had to be evacuated by the medical staff after that and the unfortunate setback put a halt to her Olympic pursuit. Two months following the unforeseen stumble, she shared a glimpse of her training and appeared in great shape.
Blakely was seen performing giant swings on the uneven bars. She shared a video of the uneven bars routine on her Instagram story and shared an update on her recovery with the fans.
"Getting back," she wrote while adding a smiling emoji.
Blakely was poised as a fierce contender to secure an Olympic spot following her remarkable performance at the 2024 U.S. Gymnastics Championships, where she secured second place in the all-around event behind the legendary gymnast Simone Biles.
“It’s definitely a big goal of mine now" - Skye Blakely sets her sight on the 2028 Los Angeles Games after enduring setbacks at two Olympic Trials
The 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials weren't the only qualifying event that ended Skye Blakely's Olympic dream. During the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials, she met with the same fate as four years later after suffering a devastating elbow injury.
During the vault warmup session at the 2021 Trials, she tore her ulnar collateral ligament, halting her Olympic quest for the first time. However, unfazed by the challenges even after two major setbacks, Blakely has fixed her sights on competing at the 2028 Games, set to take place in her home country.
According to Olympics.com, when asked if she views the 2028 Games as an opportunity, Blakely said,
“It’s definitely a big goal of mine now that I get to work toward."
Following the setback in Minnesota, Blakely has now moved to Dallas, to join the University of Florida women’s gymnastics team.
