Running for an individual Olympic double at the Paris Summer Games, American world champion Noah Lyles once again drew criticism from fans as he talked about how his Jamaican girlfriend, Junelle Bromfield, keeps him informed about her fellow track athletes.
Lyles and Bromfield have been reportedly dating for the last two years. The two first met each other in 2017 when Bromfield reached out to Lyles on social media, and they soon became friends. Later, the American expressed his feelings for her, and the couple started dating in 2022. Since then, their love life has been thriving, and Bromfield celebrated her first dating anniversary with Lyles last year in August.
The couple has been each other's support through thick and thin, backing each other in their professional and personal lives. They are regarded as the dynamic duo of track and field domain. However, in a recent development, fans scrutinized Noah Lyles for speaking "too much" about getting information from the Jamaican camp.
In a video posted by Track Spice on their X handle (formerly Twitter), Lyles said:
"Junelle being Jamaican and having trained in VP, I've been getting the drama from Jamaican camps for at least five years now. There's a lots of times where I make references to Jamaicans. I'm not saying it because I'm like trying to go back and forth because I know information that other people don't."
This statement from Lyles did not sit well with the fans, who started to criticize him for making his girlfriend "look bad". In the wake of Lyles' comments, a fan suggested Bromfield return her Jamaican passport and tweeted:
"YUCK. Junelle girl please return your Jamaican passport. This is why you must not sleep with the enemy."
Another fan questioned the American sprinter for sharing the information publicly and said that he had betrayed her trust. The fan wrote:
"It’s not surprising she told him things but why you gotta come say shit unprovoked ??? Bredda ya chat too much, it’s like he was just waiting for the chance to throw her under the bus."
Another fan sarcastically suggested that Lyles' relationship with Bromfield was motivated by a desire to get inside information.
"Dude dated a Jamaican, JUST to get inside info! Jah Jah!" the fan tweeted.
Many more fans condemned Noah Lyles for his remarks and wrote:
"This Sissy just made his girlfriend looks bad. He chats too much," a fan tweeted.
"Very wrong," another one wrote.
