Noah Lyles has hinted at a Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul-type mega event for the 1v1 clash against Tyreek Hill. The duo is confirmed to race over a 60-yard distance and the clash is expected to take place after the end of the 2025 indoor season.
Following Lyles' 100m win and subsequent defeat in the 200m at the Paris Olympics, Hill claimed he was faster than Lyles and could beat him in a 1v1 race. He also accused the Olympic champion of faking his COVID-19 illness after the defeat in the 200m final. Notably, Lyles said he had tested positive a day before the final.
The world champion accepted the 1v1 challenge and after initial disagreements over distance, they settled on a 60-yard dash. While the dates and prizes haven't been revealed yet, Lyles has hinted at a Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul type of event which garnered a staggering 108 million viewers on Netflix, as reported by the company.
Speaking during an interview with LetsRun.com, the 100m Olympic champion declined to reveal any details about the 1v1 clash against Hill but hinted at an announcement in the near future.
"It's one of the things that are working, the thing that I hope to be unveiling soon. I'll just say the talks are going very well and if this goes to the level that we want it to, this is going to be a Mike Tyson Jake Paul-type event," he said. [15:43 onwards]
Earlier in October, Ad Age reported that the race would be part of the new track league, Duael, in 2025 and the “Super Serious On Sight” series hosted by Terry Crews and its other co-founders.
Noah Lyles beats IShowSpeed in 1v1 race for $100k
Noah Lyles raced YouTube streamer IShowSpeed in a 1v1 race for $100,000 hosted by MrBeast on November 7. Speed boasts 33 million subscribers on YouTube and challenged the Olympic champion for a race after claiming he was faster.
As MrBeast fired the starting gun, Speed was quicker off the blocks than Lyles but the Olympic champion managed to take the lead near the 30m mark. He showboated heavily on his way to winning by nearly the length of a stride while Speed was reluctant to accept defeat initially before saying he could beat Lyles in a 40m race.
The streamer asked Lyles for a rematch and while he denied it, the 27-year-old asked him to join him in practice.
"You should practice with me and then at the end of the week, we'll race again. You'll be faster, you'll know what to do, you'll have the techniques, you'll have the advantage. Then we can run the real man's race, the 100 (meters)," Noah Lyles told IShowSpeed (as quoted by USA Today).
Lyles donated the $100k to charity while IShowSpeed has made an unlikely claim of running "100 meters, 50 meters, and maybe 200 meters" at the 2028 L.A. Olympics.
