Mikaela Shiffrin shared an update on her injury after suffering a devastating crash at the Alpine Skiing World Cup in Killington. The American Alpine skier revealed that she had to undergo an unexpected surgery as she was feeling a little under the weather.

The 29-year-old athlete's appearance at the Killington Alpine World Cup held great significance and raised anticipation among fans as she attempted to register her 100th World Cup victory. However, tragedy struck the athlete in the final moments of the race when she veered off the track and crashed into the protective fencing near the finishing line.

The Ski patrol soon attended Mikaela Shiffrin and she was taken to a nearby medical center for evaluation. It was later revealed that she suffered a puncture wound as well as severe muscle trauma which restricted her movement.

A week after the crash, Shiffrin took to Instagram to share an injury update and revealed that she had a little cavity that was deeper than the wound, which was filled with old clotted blood due to which she had to undergo an unexpected surgery.

"Gotta love a curveball…😅 Had a little unexpected surgery on Thursday evening after feeling a bit under the weather. Turns out I had a little cavity deeper than the wound tract that was filled with old hematoma and wasn’t properly draining with a wound vac or normal packing…so we went in to wash it out and close it with sutures and a little JP drain to keep the drainage flowing," she wrote.

Furthermore, she thanked her fans for their support as well as revealed that she would be cheering for teammates who would be competing at the Birds of Prey World Cup.
