Riley Gaines recently reacted to the federal court ruling amid the transgender controversy surrounding Blaire Fleming, who represents the women's volleyball team of San Jose State University. The lawsuit filed by the university's female volleyball players (including some of Fleming's teammates) against the Mountain West Conference league in Colorado was dismissed without a hearing.

According to media reports, the female athletes who had filed the lawsuit were not allowed to testify. After the lawsuit was dismissed, San Jose State University issued a statement that they would continue to support Fleming.

Gaines reacted to the situation as she posted on her X handle:

"Last week, a Biden-appointed federal judge held a hearing for the volleyball players suing the Mountain West Conference. He barred the female athletes from testifying. Today, he ruled in favor of the less-than-mediocre man. The girls plan to appeal the ruling."

Gaines also called out the university administration for their stance on this issue, as she further posted:

"Don't send your kids to San Jose State University @SJSU —unless you’re okay with them graduating without knowing what a woman is."

In addition to supporting the lawsuit, Riley Gaines has also backed SJSU player Brooke Slusser and assistant coach Melissa Batie-Smoose, who have spoken against the presence of Fleming in the team. While Slusser was reportedly sent death threats for her stance, Batie-Smoose was sacked from her job.

In September 2024, Riley Gaines spoke out against Blaire Fleming, who is reportedly transgender, participating in the Mountain West Conference league. Fleming had led the San Jose State Spartans to a 9-0 victory over the Fresno State.

Gaines reacted to the situation as she posted on her X handle:

"It's probably not overly difficult to be 9-0 when you have a man on your team lol"

Subsequently, five educational institutions boycotted their matches against San Jose State Spartans, including Utah State University, Boise State University, and the University of Wyoming. While the University of Nevada's administration was reluctant to boycott the match against the San Jose State Spartans, the players went ahead with it.

When Fleming's teammate Brooke Slusser joined the lawsuit against the NCAA, Gaines praised her for speaking out against the alleged injustice. When Slusser reportedly received death threats, Gaines voiced her support as she posted on her X handle:

"A female player on SJSU volleyball team received death threats after signing on to the Gaines vs NCAA lawsuit. The DM said that her team needed to keep their distance from her because something bad was going to happen. So much for tolerance & inclusion..."

Riley Gaines has also protested against the Title IX changes proposed by the outgoing US administration led by Joe Biden. According to the changes, additional security would be provided to the athletes representing the LGBTQ+ community. However, according to Gaines and other critics, this is an excuse to suppress any kind of criticism against the participation of trans athletes in women's sports.
