Kayla DiCello has had a difficult 2024 season, having dealt with an Achilles injury that cut short her dream of making it to the Paris Olympics. Recently, the American revealed that she had undergone yet another foot surgery, and many of her fellow gymnasts were quick to show their support.

DiCello made her debut on the senior circuit in 2020 and has since quickly established herself as a promising contender. In 2021, she was a bronze medalist in the all-around at the World Championships. In 2023, she was a part of the team that won gold at the Antwerp World Championships.

Now, just six months after pulling out of the US Olympic Trials due to a torn Achilles, Kayla DiCello underwent another foot surgery. Announcing the news on Instagram, she wrote,

“This year I'm asking Santa for two new feet! I'm so grateful to have been able to slowly take steps back into doing what I love. Unfortunately, I had another surgery. Everyone has a different journey in life and this is the plan God has for me. I'll be back in the gym again soon.”

Reacting to this news, many gymnasts showed their support for DiCello, with Suni Lee writing,

“Love you sister, here every step.”
“Always here for you,” Skye Blakey added.

For Kayla DiCello, her 2024 began on an amazing note at the Winter Cup in January. She won gold in the all-around with a career-high score of 56.850 while also taking home gold for her uneven bars and floor exercise routines. She wrapped up her campaign at the Winter Cup with a bronze on the balance beam.

From there, DiCello moved on to the US National Championships. At the championships, the youngster marked herself out as an early favorite for making it to the Paris Olympics team after winning silver on the uneven bars and floor exercise behind Simone Biles, as well as a bronze in the all-around.

On the first day of the US Olympic Trials, Kayla DiCello ruptured her Achilles and was subsequently forced to pull out of the competition, ending her Olympic bid.
