Houston Marathon 2025 Final Results: Conner Mantz and Weini Kelati break American records, narrowly lose out on top finishes

The Houston Marathon 2025 witnessed a thrilling finish in both men's and women's half Marathon events. While American runners Connor Mantz and Weini Kelati achieved world records, they lost out on the top finishes to Ethiopian runners Addiu Gobena and Senayet Getachew respectively.

Mantz and Gobena were quick right from the start alongside Gabriel Geay and Jemal Yimer who finished third and fourth respectively. The quartet only had three seconds of difference between them with Mantz and Gobena each finishing in 59 minutes and 17 seconds.

Mantz shattered the 17-year-old American half marathon record of Ryan Hall by 26 seconds. The Olympian was emotional on reaching the mark and said (via Runners World):

“The half marathon is how I got into running."

Weini Kelati witnessed a similar tale unfold in the women's half marathon, finishing second behind Senayet Getachew, who clocked 1:06:05s. The American long-distance runner lowered her own national record by a massive 16 seconds, running 1:06:09 while Buze Diriba Kejela placed third in 1:06:48.

USA's Erika Kemp also finished second in the women's marathon, clocking 2:22:56 behind Kumeshi Sichala, another Ethiopian, who beat Kemp comfortably in 2:20:42. Tsige Haileslase of Ethiopia placed third in 2:25:09.

Haimro Alame beat Yemane Haileselassie for the men's marathon title by eight seconds.
