The Houston Marathon and Half Marathon are set to kick off on Sunday, January 19. The event will feature some great athletes competing for the title in both disciplines. The event's route is famous for some great performances in recent years including the national record being shattered multiple times.
However, race officials and government officials have issued statements about cold temperatures compared to previous years are expected on Sunday. Taking into consideration the safety of the runners, warming buses and medical teams will be present at multiple checkpoints throughout the race.
John Whitmire, the Mayor of Houston, said in a press conference:
" As we prepare for winter weather, the Chevron Marathon must go on."
Race officials have issued an advisory for runners and highlighted the importance of dressing in layers to run in cold conditions.

The Houston Half Marathon for the elite runners will be flagged off at 6:45 a.m. CST. The elite line-up of the Houston Marathon along with the open runners will begin at 6:55 a.m. CST.

The Marathon and half marathon will feature an incredible line-up of runners with great experience under their belts along with champions from the previous edition like Weini Kelati returning to defend their titles once again.
Women
Prominent names in the women's line-up include Buze Diriba, defending champion Weini Kelati, Lindsay Flanagan, and Amanda Vestri among other elite athletes.
Men
The men's competition in the event includes a highly competitive line-up with runners who competed in the Paris Olympics as well as the runner-up and winner of the previous edition of the Houston Half Marathon. Some prominent athletes competing for the title include defending champion Jemal Yimer, Kenyan Half marathoner Wesley Kiptoo, Paris Olympics silver medalist Morgan Pearson, Clayton Young, and Conner Mantz among other elite athletes.
Houston Marathon and Half Marathon: How to Watch
The Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Houston Half Marathon will be live-streamed on ESPN+ and abc13.com on Sunday, January 19. Furthermore, the live telecast of the event will begin at 6:30 a.m. CST on abc13 followed by a complete race day recap at 10:35 p.m CST.
Alongside live streaming, spectators in Houston can witness the marathon live from multiple hot spots throughout the race.
