The U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Trials are being held at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The event will feature some of the best American gymnasts competing for a spot in the U.S. Olympic team. The Olympic Trials, which will be held from June 27 to June 30, 2024, will feature both the Men's and the Women's events.

Team USA's Olympic committee has set specified selection criteria for the qualifying athletes based on their performance at the U.S. Olympic Trials. A five-membered team will represent the United States in the Paris Olympics in the Men's and Women's discipline.

U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Trials - Qualification Criteria for the Paris Olympics

Gymnasts can qualify for the Paris Olympics at the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Trials with two different qualification criteria for the Men's and Women's disciplines.

Women's Qualifying Criteria at the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Trials

The gymnast with the highest all-around score will receive an automatic qualification for the Paris Olympics. The other gymnasts are selected by the Senior Olympic Selection Committee. Four gymnasts are shortlisted after considering the strengths needed to dominate the team event at the Olympics in all four events of the sport.

Different criteria are taken into consideration before the gymnasts are ultimately shortlisted to represent the United States in Paris.

The aspects taken into consideration before announcing the final team are:

1) Performance in the 2024 season across all major events.

2) Consistency of performances in all events

3) Overall ability to be a part of the team with the highest scoring potential

4) Execution scores and Difficulty scores

Men's Qualifying Criteria at the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Trials

The gymnast with the highest all-around score will receive an automatic qualification for the Paris Olympics provided he finishes in the top 3 positions in three individual manoeuvres.

The other gymnasts are selected and shortlisted by the Senior Olympic Selection Committee who make their decisions based on the overall team scoring potential. After looking at the results of the U.S. Gymnastics Championships last month and the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Trials, they decided to finalize on a team with the highest scoring potential.

The two data sets will be as follows:

SET 1 - Top 3 scores of each participating athlete from the finals of the U.S. Gymnastics Championships and U.S. Gymnastics Olympic Trials.

SET 2 - Scores and performances of all four events of each athlete from the finals of the U.S. Gymnastics Championships and U.S. Gymnastics Olympic Trials.

The Senior Selection Committee makes multiple variations of the five-member team from the above data sets keeping in mind the aim to create a team with the highest scoring potential.
