MyKayla Skinner won one Olympic medal throughout her career. This came at the Tokyo Games, where she replaced Simone Biles after the latter withdrew from the remainder of the tournament.
MyKayla Skinner was hailed as one for the future after impressive performances at the 2016 U.S. Gymnastics Olympic Team Trials.
Although she didn't make it to the team for the Rio Olympics and was selected as an alternate due to tough competition from gymnasts such as Simone Biles and Gabby Douglas, she made it four years later to the Tokyo Olympics.
Skinner started her elite career in 2011 and was named junior all-around champion at the American Classic. She was named to the senior team in 2012 but didn't qualify for the 2012 Olympic Trials. Four years later, she did make it to trials, finishing an impressive fourth in the all-around competition.
The 27-year-old was selected as an alternate for the 2016 Rio Olympics but didn't get the opportunity to compete. Skinner turned to a collegiate career post-Olympics but returned in 2019 and later finished fifth at the 2021 Olympic Trials. She was named to the Tokyo Olympics team, where she won a silver medal in vault competition, her only Olympic medal.
MyKayla Skinner competed on all four apparatuses in the all-around competition at the Tokyo Olympics but finished 11th. She placed fourth on the vault but didn't secure the direct qualification due to two-per-country limitations as Simone Biles and Jade Carey had finished ahead of her.
However, following Biles’ withdrawal from the finals, she replaced her in the vault finals and scored 14.916 for the silver medals. Skinner retired from competitive gymnastics after the Tokyo Olympics and now runs a YouTube channel, where her comments on the USA Gymnastics Team recently started a huge controversy.
