Mikaela Shiffrin will compete at the first stop of the Alpine Skiing World Cup for the 2024/25 season on Saturday, October 26, 2024, in Soelden. Austria. After navigating a severe injury that forced her to stay away from competing for the overall Crystal Globe in 2023/24, Shiffrin will be back on the slopes to chase her 100 World Cup victories quest.
On January 26, 2024, the American skiing superstar suffered a devastating crash during the downhill race in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. While landing a jump, Shiffrin lost control and crashed into the safety net, while cruising through the snow at high speed.
She was attended by the medical team for nearly 10 minutes before being airlifted to the nearest hospital. She sprained her MCL and tibiofibular ligament in her knees and also bruised her bones. The crash kept her dormant from 11 races of the season.
However, the American is all set to make her return with a quest to earn a record-breaking ninth slalom globe. Her current eight slalom globes titles are a record in one discipline, tying with Lindsey Vonn (downhill) and Ingemar Stenmark (slalom, giant slalom).
On October 26, 2024, Shiffrin will compete in the season-opener in Giant Slalom, the schedule of which is given below:
- Run 1 - 10:00 (4am ET)
- Run 2 - 13:00 (7am ET)
