Hunter Woodhall dedicated his maiden Paris Paralympic gold medal in the men's 400m T-62 to his late uncle Wyatt who passed away due to cancer. Right after crossing the finish line first, Woodhall took out his bib and showed a message written behind his name to the cameras as he got emotional on winning his first gold medal in the event.
Hunter Woodhall was considered to be one of the top contenders for the podium in the men's 400m T-62 after he set a new American record at the U.S. Paralympic Track and Field Trials. The American athlete faced tough competition in the finals at the Paris Paralympics but managed to push through at the finish line to win his maiden gold medal after clocking a time of 46.36s.
Soon after the race, he took out his bib and showed a message written behind it to the cameras as he burst into celebration. He penned a short note dedicating his race and victory to his uncle, Wyatt Woodhall who passed away due to cancer.
" Wyatt Woodhall, this one is for you," read the message.

Hunter Woodhall spoke about his uncle Wyatt's influence in his life. Calling him of the most selfless persons that he has ever met, the American athlete shed light on how his uncle helped everyone despite facing several challenges and battliing cancer.
"Wyatt Woodhall was the most selfless person i've ever met. He went out of his way to take care of others even during his biggest battles. He put others first, built others up, and believed in people like no one else I know. He was an amazing person, husband, brother, friend, and father to four equally amazing kids. (and grandpa) I don't understand why God has taken him so early but the impact he has left on those around him will last forever," he said.
"I am proud to be a Woodhall because of people like my uncle, there is no chance me or anyone in our family would be where they are today without the love and sacrifices that he has given. Rest in peace Uncle Wyatt," he added.
Hunter Woodhall concluded his Paris Paralympics campaign with two medals- gold in the men's 400 T-62 and a bronze medal in the 4x100m Universal relay leading to the most successful Paralympic campaign of his career.
