US sprinter Brittany Brown left behind a highly contentious field, defeating reigning 200m champion Shericka Jackson to claim the win at the 2024 Oslo Diamond League, dubbed Bislett Games. Reflecting on the same, she expressed that the race didn't bolster her confidence because she contested with inbuilt conviction.

Brittany Brown ran at the 2023 USATF Toyota Outdoor Championships and secured the 100m silver with a time of 10.90s, which also marked her personal best. Brown's stellar performance in that race qualified her for the 2023 World Athletics Championships, but she finished seventh clocking 10.97s, falling 0.32s of the winning time.

Coming into 2024, the 29-year-old pitched up for the USATF LA Grand Prix and shared the track with reigning 400m hurdles champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone in the 200m. But the former accepted defeat to the latter and settled for bronze (22.35s).

However, she snatched the podium at the Oslo Diamond League in a time of 22.32s, leaving the second-fastest 200m woman, Shericka Jackson, trailing in fifth. In a post-race interview, Brown expressed joy in claiming the win in the discipline and exuded confidence, saying:

"Someone asked me like, ‘Does this race give you confidence?’ I was like, no I already have confidence going in. You know, the 200m, I love this event. I dibble-dabbled the 100m last year and that was so hard. I still made the team but that was so hard. This is something I love to do and no one can make me feel less confident about that... it cements what I already knew." (Via FloTrack)

Shericka Jackson won the 200m at the Marrakech Diamond League clocking a time of 22.82s to mark her 200m Olympic entry. But that too didn't come close to 21.41s, her personal best and second fastest behind Florence Griffith-Joyner.

"I'm just evolving as like a sprinter" - Brittany Brown talks about her evolution on the track

At the 2019 World Championships, Brittany Brown won the silver in the 200m. She chose the 100m after suffering from Osteitis Pubis, as the last painful seconds in the 200m dimmed her chances of a podium finish. Brown quickly picked up pace, having run the 100m dash at the 2023 World Championships.

In 2022, she first went sub-11 in the 100m and recognized her ability to prepare for the 100m alongside the 200m, as told to CITIUS Mag in 2023.

"Last year I broke 11 seconds for the first time so we were just thinking like I could do it again in the 100 and I could do it again in the 200. So, you know I'm just evolving as a sprinter. Seeing myself how I can prepare and attack races like I never thought I could actually do."

Brittany Brown will look to make her first Olympic team at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
