American gymnast Simone Biles recently commented on the legacy she has built in the gymnastics circuit over the years. This comes after Biles was named Sports Illustrated's Sportsperson of the Year 2024.

Biles bid goodbye to 2024 with an excellent Paris Olympics campaign where she was the most successful gymnast from her team with three golds and a silver medal. Owing to this, she bagged this major annual award from SI.

Biles spoke in an interview with the magazine about the contributions she has made to the discipline of gymnastics. The 27-year-old also said that she feels that she would not be able to realize the magnitude of her legacy until she retires from the sport. She said (via Sports Illustrated):

"I don’t think the reality has set in of what I’ve exactly done in the sport. I can see it, and I hear it from people, and I see a glimpse of it, but the full magnitude I don’t think I’ve realized just yet. I don’t think I’ll realize ’til maybe I retire and look back in a couple years like, Damn, she was good. Because I can see that, but I do it every day. So for me, it’s normal.”

Notably, she also featured in her "Gold Over America Tour" which revolved through several cities in America and was her major off-gymnastics endeavor in 2024. Moreover, her documentary, "Simone Biles: Rising" also hit the floors in 2024 on Netflix.

Simone Biles recently commented on her participation at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

During the same interview, Biles stated that she would have to make a decision to make on her participation at the 2028 LA Olympics and remarked that she would have to make a lot of sacrifices if she were to go to the next quadrennial games. She said (via Sports Illustrated):

“If you go back, you’ll be greedy. Those are the consequences. But that’s also your decision to decide. What sacrifices would be made if I go back now? Now it’s like, starting a family, being away from my husband. What’s really worth it?”

During the interview, Simone Biles also mentioned that she has achieved it all in her career and has nothing left to achieve in gymnastics.
